When should we begin Purim Preparations? While those following the secular calendar are still talking about goals for the new year of 2020, in the Jewish calendar we have other activities on the horizon. The stores are filling up with a range of fruits and dried fruits for Tisha B’Av. As we looked at the fun items on display this week, my mind began to think about the festival that comes after that.
Is it too early to begin preparing for Purim? When is the right time to prepare for Purim? In the video below, the last Lubavitcher Rebbe talks about 30 days prior to Purim. We are a little before 30 days. Is it too early to think about Purim?
To be honest, I don’t think so. The reason is two-fold. Firstly, as I was busy doing some research on Amazon today, I noticed Purim creeping into the banner. If Amazon can think about Purim already, perhaps it is time for us to as well.
The second reason is that we need to give enough time for printing and shipping of any items purchased through our Creations From Jerusalem site. We would not want you to find that you ordered a T-shirt with matching mug or tote bag or both only to discover that they arrive two days after Purim.
In order to avoid such problems, we are making sure that the items come into our store in enough time for you to either make a purchase or place an order. We do love to work to commission so don’t be shy. If there is an item you would like, be in touch. We’d love to hear your needs and to help you if we can.
Lastly, to tag another thought for consideration. We had started to prepare a few Chanukah Stickers but that was far too close to Chanukah for anyone to get excited about them. So our stickers will have to wait for next year. We don’t want the same problem with our Purim range.
We have the start of a fun collection coming together and many more brewing. Don’t you just love Purim? It’s filled with so much fun, joy and kindness. If we stop and think about what Purim is all about, it certainly should be filled with all that and more. It’s a reminder to us of an incredible series of events that resulted in redemption of the entire Jewish people who lived at the time of the Purim story.
I really love Purim. I love the potential to give and help others. I love the fun and the message of the day. Last year we really wanted to increase upon Mishloach Manot we have given in the past and to add another dimension to it. Sadly we were not very successful. This year I have some new ideas in mind. Do take a look at the start of this collection. Sign up to our newsletter so that you can be notified as new items come into our store.
Remember, if you have a need for a creative gift that you do not see in our various categories, do be in touch. We love to make to order.
