Hello and welcome to this new blog and website. I am so very excited to be sharing this website with you. I love to create and I love to be creative. I love to share gifts and beauty with others in order to make the world a better place through a variety of beautiful items.
Where my love of art and creating began
The first memories I have of being creative are probably in pre-school doing some finger painting. Some time later I joined a group where we learned music and various types of art. This was my introduction to pottery. After moving to Cape Town, the second junior school that I attended was one of the Steiner Schools. The best part of this school was the exposure to a wide range of creative skills. We learned how to do many kinds of art and crafts as well as the benefit of being creative.
I loved the type of art that was taught. I loved the use of colour and the importance placed on colour. I loved the connection between art, creativity and nature. This love has lasted and continued. I continued to study art in high school. High School introduced me to some skills important to drawing and art as well as some art history. However, those who have seen some of my abstract drawings might recognize the influence that the Waldorf / Steiner education had on my art. Whether one notices this influence or not, my art is made to bring a sense of inner calm and self-reflection. Many of my more recent abstract drawings / paintings have deeper meanings to them.
Progress of my art and gifts
Some years after I started working as an occupational therapist, I began to explore the use of my own art, not only with my clients but for my own enjoyment and for sale. I have held several private art exhibitions and enjoyed selling paintings, some handmade crafty items and handmade greeting cards. Most of my ceramic work has been given as gifts to family members.
The more my husband and I work on developing a Torah Healing Centre, the more I lean towards wanting to develop my art once more. After much consideration and some research I decided that my art and creativity lend themselves very well to being an exciting avenue to earn what we need to create a very special centre.
We aim for this website to be exclusive. Something special for those who would like to treat themselves or to give a unique, original gift that comes from Jerusalem. Knowing that the proceeds go to a very special cause, that of developing a Torah centre is added bonus.
Since this website aims to be exclusive and a personal service, we aim to develop the atmosphere and service of a personal boutique. Hence we have added an online chat feature and we welcome you to be in touch to discuss your needs for that something special that you wish to give as a gift. I have accepted commissions for paintings and it is always exciting to see someone’s special request evolve and develop into exactly what they want it to be.
Some commissions I have painted
- A series of sunflower paintings depicting Shacharit, Minchah and Maariv, these were painted on silk and floated in glass
- A painting of a little girl’s two cats with a matching cushion cover, both painted on silk
- A painting on silk depicting the story of creation as described in the Chumash
- A set of two ceramic rose bookends made
These are the one’s that I can remember, there may well be others. If you have a request for a drawing, painting or gift set that you would like to order or commission, please do be in touch.
Aside from commissions, I love to make up gift sets. The page of products being added initially, includes an assortment of handmade greeting cards. I do have other items that will gradually be going online. I have hand painted cushion covers, a few hand painted T-Shirts, photographs that can be framed, a few paintings on fabric that are currently unframed. Then I have drawings and paintings that can be purchased as prints, printed onto mugs or hand towels and of course the original is available for sale too.
So enjoy the items as they go up and do visit often or make an appointment to view my art in person.
