Where do you begin when deciding to write a post? Do you begin with an image to illustrate your idea or with brainstorming about the topic you wish to write about?
I was searching on Pixabay for an image to begin this post and am so delighted that I did. This image is just perfect for me and my art. How did they know that my name begins with an ‘S’ or that the turquoise at the top and the purple at the bottom are my favourite colours? How did they now that I absolutely love to use the colours of the spectrum / rainbow especially when doing my spiritual drawings. And how did they know that we are currently figuring out how to get my mother’s portable easel to stand steadily on the table. Some will say it’s serendipity. I love that word too!
This post is a little bit of avoiding. You see I have got a little stuck on the development of this website. Somehow or other I made an error and when I list my products in categories a few of the categories do not show. So until I figure that out I am stuck, Unless I keep on showing all items as they are uploaded? Does it matter? Well logic says to fix the error now before I have too many products, but lack of skills says find something else to do to avoid that trouble spot.
Oh the joys of being an artist, always something to do and a creative way to fill one’s time instead of taking care of a problem one does not know how to fix. I do need to get out of avoiding and fix the problem. So while I am brainstorming and researching the technical side, I decided to begin to get some attention for the website. If you have stumbled upon this blog, do help me to decide what items to put up next.
I just took down a few greeting cards which thankfully have sold. That means I have less products currently showing in the store. I have lots more items but what to put up is the question.
There was a time I was working on developing a line of hand painted T-shirts. I still have a few that I could put up for sale. Here is a pic of one to give an idea.
I loved painting these T-shirts. I came up with a lot of designs, mostly but not only for kids. The reason that I stopped was because of pricing. I sold some at craft markets and an order went to a store. However, most who saw the T-shirts wanted them for dirt cheap. Their reason being that “it’s a T-shirt” Well that might be, but it takes time to draw the design and then re-draw the design onto the T-shirt and then to paint it with special fabric paint. Mind you it also takes time to learn how to draw and how to paint and to understand the use of fabric liners and fabric paints and of course to purchase the plain white T-shirt that the picture was painted onto. So there is actually quite a lot of skill and time that goes into enabling whoever purchases the T-shirt to enjoy the final product.
One of the T-shirts I have left has an image of a dolphin. I think it’s lovely, but it does not go for ₪20. Should I put the few T-shirts up? Would you be interested? With the little knowledge of the process that you have learned as listed above, what would you pay for a hand-painted, unique T-shirt?
Hand painted items do not have to be on T-shirts. The image could be on a blouse or shirt or skirt or table cloth or other item too. In fact I paint on cushion covers and table mats as well. Take a look at this gift set for an idea.
I could also spend a little time starting to put some of my drawings up. This image is one example of a little fun I had some years ago. It sells as a print either on canvas or wood. It can be printed onto paper too and of course for those who want an interesting greeting card I can make that up with pleasure.
Once I am printing I can prepare a set too. I love to come up with gift sets.
What type of art do you enjoy? What kind of art or creations would you like to see coming into our store? Slowly but surely we aim to get all or most of our items up onto the store. Let us know your favourite gift item and if I have it in stock, I will happily start the next round of uploading items with your choice.
