The various festivals or Holy days definitely help me to feel a connection to this special land of Israel. As January came to an end and February began, we enjoyed Tu B’Shvat the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shvat, which is the birthday of the trees. The day before Tu B’Shvat, I was on the bus when I passed one of the beautiful parks in Jerusalem. I hoped to capture an image of the stunning trees in Jerusalem as we waited at the bus stop.
I don’t always have my phone out and so, taking out the phone, opening it up, and preparing the photo feature or camera took precious time. I did manage to snap the picture above before the bus moved forward and turned the corner, making photography a challenge. It’s not so easy to quickly jump up and do a gymnastic stunt in order to get the shot. So I was left with this image only. Or so I thought.
The day was beautiful and I so love the clouds in the sky and how they enhance the image of the trees.
Well, Tu B’Shvat dawned, another gorgeous day even though it’s still winter. I was just contemplating going to the park to photograph the trees when we received a message of a visitor in town from another part of Israel. And, interested in seeing our display of art, books and creative gifts that are still up from our sale of a few days ago.
It was so much fun to receive a visitor and the added treat of an early birthday tea. Since my Hebrew birthday falls on the day after Tu B’Shvat, it was a real treat! We remembered the day with fruity biscuits, apple tart, nuts and raisins.
I was even spoiled with a new plant to add to our welcome area. The leaves go so well with a ceramic pot I made some years ago.
The visit turned out to be even more fruitful as our friend purchased a few of our hand-knitted beanies. Stay tuned as we share two photographs of the cutest little girl modeling one of our beanies. In a further post I hope to share a few of the photographs taken today in the park. Since my lens has been repaired it was a lot of fun to spend some time photographing the new blossoms just coming out, the beautiful trees and a special pomegranate that we discovered as we were about to leave.
Don’t you just love nature. It is filled with so many options to photograph. I love being able to work on my macro shots and landscapes as well as portraits and textures all in the stunning venue of the park down the road.
So there’s lots in store. More beanies going into the store, ideas for further photographic products. It’s very exciting. We just need a few more hours in the day to prepare and share all our work and thoughts related to the beauty of Jerusalem.
